Description
The CIHR Institute of Aging (IA) has a broad mandate to support research and build research capacity in the field of aging.
Through this trainee travel award the IA seeks to encourage networking and exchange of ideas among emerging scholars working within our priority research areas. In particular, we would like to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and cross-disciplinary exposure of research on aging and seniors' issues. This might be accomplished through the participation of trainees in aging at academic meetings of related disciplines, or participation of currently unaffiliated researchers in conferences and symposia on aging. To meet these ends, IA is launching a competition to provide travel funds for Masters and Doctoral students, and Post-doctoral Fellows to present their work at a conference, workshop or symposia.
Specific areas being promoted by Partners:
The CIHR Institute of Aging continues to work with partners to promote the participation of relevant disciplines at conferences and symposia on aging. The partners listed below are contributing to CIHR Institute of Aging Travel Awards under specific criteria.
- Canadian Occupational Therapy Foundation has committed to co-funding 6 travel awards for Masters and Doctoral students, and post-doctoral fellows in the field of occupational therapy.
- Neurochem Inc. has committed to co-funding 4 travel awards that relate to research in Dementia in the context of the CIHR Institute of Aging Cognitive Impairment and Aging Priority.
Funds Available
CIHR's contribution to the amount available for these awards is subject to availability of funds voted annually to CIHR by parliamentary appropriations, and the conditions that may be attached to them.
The maximum amount for a single award is $1,000 (to offset costs of travel, accommodation, registration fees, and other related expenses). In addition to the partnered awards, 12 awards will be available per year.
Note: Applicants are eligible to receive only one IA Travel Award or Age+ Award per calendar year. Travel expenses must follow Institute of Aging Guidelines*. Successful awardees will be reimbursed for expenses after receipts, proof of attendance, and proof of oral or poster presentation are submitted to IA.
* The Institute of Aging requires that all travel be by the lowest economy fare, that accommodations be at Federal Government or University rates, and that meal charges not exceed a set per diem: breakfast $13, lunch $12.40, dinner $35.30.
